Edinburgh Writers’ Club has reason to be proud of its members, past and present. Maurice Fleming, for many years editor of the Scots Magazine, remembered the club with real fondness and always enjoyed coming back to visit. Our honorary president is Alanna Knight, Scottish novelist and biographer. Audrey Reimann, Harriet Smart, Joyce Holms, Margaret McKinlay, are novelists, who developed their skills as club members. Suse Coon now editor of Lothian Life magazine, is also a prize winning children’s novelist. Millie Gray, Bob Adams and San Cassimally are dramatists who have had their work performed and published. Norman Bissett is a very successful poet. Malcolm Cant has published many books on local history. Margaret McNeill has written children’s stories for radio. There are many short story writers, including Alexandra Simpson, a regular contributor to women’s magazines. There are other members who are on the brink of publication, who get every encouragement from club members.

Members of the club have won prizes over the years at the weekend seminar run by the Scottish Association of Writers, to which the club is affiliated. The SAW weekend, each spring, provides a great opportunity for writers from other clubs all over the country to meet, to attend seminars and meet with visiting speakers, publishers and agents.
